Who we are

IKSDP (International Kenya Scout Development Project) is a no-profit organization (Self Help Group) recognized by the Kenyan government. Founded on the initiative of Brownsea Foundation, the Kenya Scout Association and the World Scout Bureau-Africa Region.

IKSDP with the founding partners and the local community gave rise to the international cooperation project called Harambee Gwassi started in 1983 in the village of Nyandiwa, on the shores of Lake Victoria (Homa Bay County – Kenya), stillongoing.

“Harambee” in Swahili means “work together”. With this spirit, the Project works to share needs analysis, to plan together things to do, to establish bonds of friendship, to spread a peaceful mindset without any prejudice. Educational values of scouting are transferred to the collective dimension: in fact, the aim of the interventions is, first of all, to promote community self-development, through educational actions, respecting the dignity of the person and the experience of the local population.

The interventions promoted are not of welfare nature, but aim at involving the local community, with the intention of bringing it to autonomously manage the activities carried out.

In Europe it is represented by the IKSDP-Harambee Project Onlus Association.
