Junior Secondary School
In Kenya, Junior Secondary School (JSS) is a three-year stage within the basic education system, covering grades 7, 8, and 9, following primary education and preceding senior secondary school. The program aims to provide a strong academic foundation in core subjects like math and science, while also developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, alongside students’ personal and social development. This stage is crucial for bridging primary and senior secondary education, fostering student well-being, and preparing learners for future academic and life challenges under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Il Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) It is Kenya’s new education system, introduced in 2017 and applied to schools from pre-primary to high school levels. It shifts its emphasis from content and memorization to the development of practical skills and 21st-century abilities, evaluating students through a continuous formative assessment process to create personalized learning paths. Despite initial challenges, the CBC aims to prepare students for the world of work and promote the holistic development of individuals.
